Part 1: Thinking of selling after covid-19?
You had huge plans to move this year, right? Then along came coronavirus and completely skewed that idea!
So, what can you do now to prepare yourselves for the big move when things get back to normal?
Here’s a few ideas which will give you a huge focus during this lockdown. Think how busy we’ll all be when this is over in our day to day jobs. If the plan was to move then why not get as ready as you can be now?
When I go out on valuations one of the main questions that come up is what can I do to maximise the value and chances of selling?
My answer is always take yourself out of the mindset that this is YOUR home...start putting yourself into the mindset of a potential buyer...
When someone views a house or looks at photos of a house they’re subconsciously imagining themselves living in the house without even realising it themselves! If your personality is all over the house (e.g personal photos or your whacky taste in decoration) then it makes that process really difficult.
So what would I advise?
If you’re serious about moving then all your stuff is going to be moved with you at some point, right? So why not start packing some things up now to help you de-clutter...use the 6 month rule...”have I used this item in last 6 months?” If the answer is no - pack it away. Mark up some boxes and store away in the loft, shed or garage out the way ready for your move. Closer to when lockdown is over and you’re nearly ready to put the house on the market store away all your personal photos. The idea being to make your whole property as spacious and clutter free as possible. Nothing at all is better than bad decoration and a cluttered room. Once you’ve done this give the whole house a deep spring clean. Little things like cleaning all the slats on your blinds make a difference...
A clean house smells nice and gives a great first impression.
Part 2: I will be back tomorrow where I’ll go through the second part of preparing your house for sale...I’ll cover how much you should spend, what jobs are most important and reveal what I’ve learned from listening to feedback from potential buyers throughout my 13 years in the industry.
Stay safe
